Dismemberment journeys are some of the oldest of all shamanic cleansing journeys. In the process of earth medicine work, we will often feel called to undergo the process of rebirth through the shamanic experience of dismemberment, where, in the journey state, we literally ask an animal to rip us apart, tearing at us, killing us in journey, so that we may rebirth. This is particularly useful when we feel stuck, unable to move past something, when we have limiting thoughts or beliefs, or if we are ill. Jaguar, the Queen of Shadow, assists us to rebirth without shame and limitations.
